In Ancient China there were 5 social classes and each social class lived a different life and the following information will show you how there lives were.
Peasants
Peasants were considered helpful even though they were one of the lowest social classes because they provided China with food. Daily life was hard for peasants because they had to work in harsh conditions and worked for long periods of time. Most peasants were very poor. Peasants worked in the fields where all the crops grew and had to work through the heat of summer and the cold of winter. Women peasants didn’t work in the fields much. They mostly stayed confined to their home. The daily job for women was to sew clothes for their family, so their families have clothes to wear.
Emperors
Emperors lived in luxury where they had big meals each time they ate.They also lived a very organized life. Emperors are supposed to respond to any letters received that are important. Emperors were supposed to make sure that the people were doing their job in their social classes and were following the law. They are supposed to accept or disagree to policies created by the ministers. Emperors had luxury meals which includes 100 dishes for the emperor. Emperors were much respected because they were the highest social class and ruled China. It is the emperor’s job to make sure that they have good protection and that the area or dynasty is being governed properly.
Artisans
Artisans were painters, carpenters, potters and jewelers. Artisan’s earned more money than a farmer would but they would earn less than the lowest class which were the merchants. Their daily life was nothing special but was not bad, their life was an average life where they would do their job for other people and get payed for it.
Merchants
Merchants were the lowest social class of all 5. Merchants were not allowed to wear silk or ride carriages. They were mainly made up of traders but there were also animal breeders and money lenders. Merchants were the lowest class because everyone thought that they worked for their own gain not for the societies. Most merchants were very poor although some became very wealthy and were thought to be danger to the emperor so from then they taxed merchants greatly and forced them to join the army.
Civil servants
Civil servants were much respected in their social class. Civil servants were all the people that made up the government. They were very wealthy as they were very important. For Civil Servants to join the government hey would have to take a test and the higher result in the test the higher role you would receive. The other civil servants that were not a part of the government were warriors. Some civil servants called prefects had other jobs to do such as collecting taxes, enforcing law, organizing labor, storing grain, supervising schools and acting as a judge to criminal cases.
A Chinese family would be ruled by the father and his wife and kids had to obey him. Women did not work and mostly stayed home taking care of their kids. A big rule in daily life for China was to respect your elders no matter what age you are all children and even adults had to respect their parents and all elders. Even when elders die it is part of their religion to visit and leave sacrifices.
